Emerging industries are the pioneers and new forces in global industrial development. Rapid development and continuous achievements have been seen in emerging industries represented by energy efficiency & environmental protection, intelligent manufacturing, digital service, biotechnology, new energy, new materials and information technology.


The 2nd World Emerging Industries Summit (WEIS 2013), the highest-standard authoritative event in global emerging industries, was held in Wuhan, the central city in central China, from November 21st to 23rd, 2013. More than 1000 senior management of Fortune 500 and Forbes 2000, leading enterprises in emerging industries and renowned experts from over 60 countries attended the summit. With the theme of “Innovation Leads Development, Cooperation Creates Future”, the summit comprises five sub-forums: World Forum on Energy Efficiency and Environmental Protection Industry, World Forum on Biotechnology and Industrial Development, World Forum on Intelligent Manufacturing Industry, World Form on Digital Service Industrial Development and World Forum on High-end Cooperation.


WEIS is initiated by APCEO, which also acted as the international sponsor of the summit. The sponsor in China of the first summit is Jilin Provincial Government while that of the second summit is Wuhan Municipal Government. The summit has been receiving tremendous attention from governments of various countries including the central government of China since it was first held.


Her Excellency, Nancy Pelosi, the Democratic leader of U.S. House of Representatives sent a letter to Mr. Zheng Xiongwei, the famous international economist and global executive chairman of APCEO, singing high praise for the theme of the summit “Innovation Leads Development, Cooperation Creates Future” and stating that “Innovation” and “Cooperation” are the best paths to a brighter future for China, the U.S. and even the whole world. She also pointed out that US-China relationship was not only important to the two countries but also had significant influence on the entire world.


On the afternoon of November 21st, Ruan Chengfa, Member of Standing Committee of Hubei Provincial Party Committee and secretary of Wuhan Municipal Party Committee of China and Tang Liangzhi, Mayor of Wuhan, specially met Mr. Dominique de Villepin, Former Prime Minister of France and Global Chairman of APCEO, Zheng Xiongwei, Global Executive Chairman of APCEO, Nick Bolkus, Former Minister of Australian and Global Vice-Chairman of APCEO, General Christian Emile Quesnot, Global Vice Chairman of APCEO and Chief of staff of the Two Former Presidents of France, and his wife, John Naisbitt, world-renowned Futurist and Author of the Megatrends, and his wife, Robert G. Gibert, Academician of Australian Academy of Science and the Royal College of Chemistry, Peter E. Lobie, Academician of Royal Society of New Zealand, Wei Fusheng, Academician of CAE, Jack Gao, Vice President of News Corporation, XZ Yan, VP of Global Sourcing & Asia Supply Chain of United Technologies Corporation, Roger Chen, President of Volvo (China) Investment Co., Ltd., Zhao Gang, Vice President of China North Industries Group Corporation, Ma Tianyu, Consul General of France in Wuhan, Arthur de Villepin, CEO of Med TAG in Asia (son of de Villepin, Former Prime Minister of France) etc. Ruan Chengfa spoke highly of the effort APCEO had made to the 2nd WEIS.

The opening ceremony and keynote speeches in the morning were presided over by Shao Weimin, Vice-mayor of Wuhan and the high-end cooperation conferences were moderated by Zheng Xiongwei.
