The demand for "risk assessment and management" in all its forms has increased, especially quantitatively and qualitatively, making clear the need for new approaches to enable the entire sector to ensure best results.

It is well known and demonstrated that the interdisciplinary approach and a culture of "safety & security" are the basis in order to obtain good results in this area.

The broad spectrum of themes covered originates from the awareness that in many cases the issues to be addressed involve more than one matter considered by the team as a consequence, in order to do not offer a fragmented and limited support, which can only partially fulfil the needs of the counterparty we opt for a holistic approach.

On one side there is a need to build up a “culture of safety”, but much more in general we must consider: security and disaster recovery and management just to mention the most relevant topics

In order to reach this goal we must start at least from university courses taking care of all these aspects up to integrated multidisciplinary approaches activated in case of complex problems that represent the core of lifelong learning courses

S2D2 Cluster

The main objective of the Cluster "Security, Safety, ….", hereinafter abbreviated S2D2, is to provide a visible reference point for the full set of know-how, expertise and experiences available and active within the team.  The nature it selves of the cluster provides the ability to freely configure an ad hoc panel of experts that perfectly suites with the specific problem to be solved. Experts are chosen both among the personnel belonging to different research groups and among experts belonging to industrial partners and Institutions.

Of course the same approach applies both to educational and training projects and high level research projects and consultancy. The experience gained by the personnel over the years both vertically in their own field of expertise and in teamwork in collaborative projects and research guarantees the excellence of the “product”.

The structure operates in the field of joint or funded research, consulting, support to on going projects, in the industrial partnership, training and skills transfer.

Main Activities

The overall activity may be subdivided in different branches among which are primarily: research, consulting, partnership, and last but not less relevant education and training both institutional and lifelong. Cluster S2D2 wants to enable cooperation both nationally and internationally. Institutions, organizations and companies both public and private are potential partners in the initiative. A set of selected observatories will complete the panorama of the planned activities.

Network of intl. partners

S2D2 strongly supports the concepts of inter-disciplinary approach and co-operation. Since its inception this was the vision.  A rich network of international partners is foreseen both at European and global level.
